12/25/09 03:00 am - [info]wily_one24 - Christmas Eve, 2:30am... santa sneaks about the house...

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!!!

You know, I am usually a Christmas person. I love Christmas, I always have. It's not just about the commercialism (though that's nice, too, don't get me wrong), I love families getting together and enjoying a day, the expectation, the joy, the fun...

I know there are people out there who complain about Christmas, "it's a lot of lead up for one day", yadda yadda, and usually I can see where they're coming from. I don't agree, but live and let live, right?

This year? No. No.

Because James is two and a half and finally UNDERSTANDS.

Ever since the 1st of December when we put up the tree, James has been very excited "Christmas! Christmas! Christmas is coming!". He loves seeing christmas trees, no matter where or when or whose. Green leaves and tinsel sends him in paroxysms of delight.

Over the last week, there have been BBQs and parties and get togethers, there have been presents, and James is REALLY warming up to the idea.

Tonight, when I sat him down and explained that if he was a good boy, Santa would come in when he was asleep and put presents under the tree for him, he was very excited. At first, he didn't want to go to bed, wanted the presents then and there, but when I said Santa only comes when he's asleep... James looked up at me without pausing and said "Nigh Nigh, Mummy!" and hurried off to kiss Daddy goodnight, ran to his room and jumped into bed.

He was practically shivering with excitement. It was awesome.

And you know what makes it awesome? This year, instead of having Santa bring things that I believe would be awesome for James to have... Santa was able to buy things we *know* James would love. It's actually based on his little personality.

I can't wait for him to wake up in the morning, I can't... seriously. Is it wrong of me to want to wake him at 2:30am?

Is it? Can I? Can I?

No? *pout* okayfinethen.

Why am I up at 2:30am? Because I have been 'helping' Santa construct various soccer goals and bath play tables and ring tosses. I have also been baking my little heart out.

And so, a message to you all.

12/24/09 12:23 am - [info]wily_one24 - Busy, busy, busy

Who said Christmas was merry?

Who?

I can't wait for the holidays, I need some time off.

Gah.

Baking, baking, work, baking, work, time with James, shopping (omg, no, make it end! No shopping in December for me, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo).

Ahem.

I think I'm finally finished present shopping. Wrapped and under the tree. Almost finished Christmas baking (last minute things to do tomorrow night), have plans to do the actual cooking tomorrow night. I don't plan to clean at all. Muah hah hah. Filthy Christmas!

I think that's about it. Really.

Yaaaaay.

********************

THANK YOU to Roz, Boo, and Monkey (y'all know who you are) for their lovely cards.

Anyone else waiting on a card from me, or waiting for me to receive a card, GOOD LUCK. There is an ongoing postal strike in Australia at the moment and the barest trickle of post is getting through. It doesn't look like it will be over until after Christmas, probably into the new year.

I tried to get your mail out to you, but... um... I doubt it will happen before Christmas now. *lesigh*

**********************

Anyone who has suggested to me to remind them that I've posted fic ([info]motylik, this means you!)... HEY, I"VE POSTED NEW FIC!!! It's still in the approval queue at vmfic, but the direct link for those who can't wait... (Bitter Revenge 6).

12/21/09 10:58 pm - [info]aliaspiral - Fiver: Drama Heroines

[info]princess_dexterasked, forever ago, about my Top Five Drama Heroes. Which I fully plan to do. At some point. But for now? My Top Five Drama Heroines.

Also, Im betting there are some surprises on here for most people. Like, I really really love Mei-chan, but Mei isn't on my list. For various reasons. I got a little wordy describing why I love these ladies, so..sorry? Also, to no one's surprise, I really really like ladies with strength and smarts.

1. Makino - Hana Yori Dango
Girl is BAD.ASS. She's got crazy guts. She punches Domyouji in the face and remains entirely highly wildly skeptical of continued professed love for her. Actually, she thinks he's insane. She stands up to Darth Mama, who is scary enough to make anybody pee their pants - but she isn't stupid. She walks out of there going OH CRAP WHAT DID I JUST DO? She doesn't back down, she doesn't give up, she loves her family, and will do anything to keep them safe and fed. And all this while being courted in weird ways by a man who should probably be considered a psychopath.

2. Momo - ToGetHer/Superstar Express
Momo, for all that she is a shut in and hates being in the public eye, is no shrinking violet. She's fierce in her own way, standing up for what she thinks, and does NOT let Mars walk all over her. Add to that, she has a very big heart, and is always willing to help the people she is close to. She's independent in a quiet way, and, while she doesn't give any bullies well deserved beat downs, she doesn't let them break her, either.

3. Ji-Eun - Full House
jdKLASJAKJDSAKLS THIS STUPID SHOW. And yet, I love this girl, as much as I want to punch myself in the face for saying it. Yes, she's immature and her squabbles with Young-Jae are nothing short of pulling each other's pigtails and kicking each other in the shins, but she is hilarious, tough, and frequently wears completely inappropriate heels. SHE LAUNCHES HERSELF OFF THE GROUND TO HEADBUTT YOUNG-JAE IN THE FACE. She drops Young-Jae's grandmother while trying to help her, and the cherry on the top is the fact that she is a FANFIC WRITER.

4. Mako/Sailor Jupiter - Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon
I know Usagi is the headliner here, and I love her very much, too. But there is something about Mako that I find so completely compelling. She's cheerful, tomboyish, and takes care of herself. She's a 14 year old who lives on her own, cooks for fun, and is so thrilled to have close friends, even though she is hesitant to get close to anyone. Plus, I find her really really hot. She has this little freckle right above her lip, and my occasional gay breaks through, and I SERIOUSLY want to make out with her and kiss that freckle.

5. Yuki - Summer Snow
Summer Snow is a more realistic, quieter show than I usually go for. There is nothing even resembling crack about it. And yet, one of my favorite ladies. She's another quiet one, having struggled with a severe heart condition for her entire life. It very much restricts the activities she is able to do, and yet, she decides to do something crazy and takes a class in scuba diving. She wants a job, love..life. She loves her father, volunteers with sick children at the hospital, and is willing to risk her health in order to actually live. Also, the quality is kinda crappy on these caps, plus, they are tiny, so you get two

12/21/09 06:41 pm - [info]sgflutegirl - Epic Fail

I am full of fail. I haven't been able to get any Christmas cards done this year. I feel really bad because I said that I would and I've already gotten a few from y'all. This will be the first time in 4 years that I haven't sent any out. *is sad*

12/20/09 08:35 pm - [info]aliaspiral - Drowning. Send Help.

I should be:
a) writing yuletide (over half done, and with a theme, if not a plot) - due 12/21
b) proofing a short story (gay weatherman!) - due 12/22
c) proofing a novel (no clue, havent even begun!) - due 12/31

Instead, Im listening to Anthony Stewart Head sing "Sweet Transvestite," wasting time on mystery google, and reading MLIA.

*sigh*

I could use a kick in the pants. Or some motivation. Or something else to procrastinate with.

Who's with me?

...also, i think my vlc icon is wearing a santa hat. i find this more disturbing then i can describe.

12/20/09 10:32 pm - [info]wily_one24 - Take THAT!!

Heh. Reason #985 why I love my nephews:

Kyle had an excursion at school that he didn't want to go on, so he conveniently "lost" the permission slip and was unable to go when the day arrived.

The substitute teacher that looked after the kids when Kyle's class when on the trip made them do a writing assignment. Kyle suggested this was slightly unfair that they have to do MORE work that was completely unnecessary to their schooling, just to keep them busy.

He was told in no uncertain terms to just do it.

So Kyle wrote the entire thing in ancient Angle-Saxon (which he has taught himself to read and write fluently).

When the teacher complained, he said she didn't specify it was to be in English and/or a language that anybody besides him in the entire school could read.

HA!

Another assignment he was given: create a marketing campaign for a product you have launched yourself and then make a model of this product.

Kyle chose to create a crossbow modified to shoot not just an arrow, but any object, thereby making ANYTHING a potential projectile weapon. And, not only did he create a kick ass marketing campaign, he actually built a full-scale working model. He crafted the wood himself, built the mechanisms, etc... and it WORKED.

The closer the due date came, the more Kyle worked on it, the more nervous my sister became and eventually she rang the school to say "Well, he's done the work, he's actually done a shit load of work, but I'm afraid he can't bring it to school because it's a FULLY FUNCTIONING WEAPON that can make ANY OBJECT LYING AROUND a targeted missile."

They eventually came to an agreement wherein Kyle got photos of the crossbow, footage of it actually working, and then disabled the launching mechanism and bought the frame to school to present.

Heh.

In English, he had an assignment to create a character driven narrative. He wrote a twelve chapter novel in which there were worlds, creatures, a war, and he had even created a whole new language for the book.

The assignment was in April, he has just gotten his back, because it has taken this long for the teacher to fully read and mark it. Obviously, he got higher marks.

Methinks there might be a few more specifications to the assignments when given out next year.

For example: word limit, must be in English and/or a language understood by someone other than the student, no lethal weaponry.

HEEEEEE. You go, Kyle!

12/17/09 09:19 pm - [info]bugchicklv - Question about The Guard, plus: True Blood casting spoiler!

Can any of you Canucks tell me if the final 3 eps of season 3 have aired? The last one that I saw was Ep. 5, "Lovesick," right around Thanksgiving.

There's nothing specific on GlobalTV.com as to a mid-season break, or when/if it's returning (or even if it already aired) but Guardfans.com has at least 3 more eps listed. (Of course, their air-dates are way off, but so are IMDb's--as is their season/ep listing--so I really have no idea what's going on.)

Please to be helping me with necessary Steve Bacic ogling. Thanks!
